What is the Microsoft 365 admin centre, for Cowork?

The Microsoft 365 admin centre is the web console where your organisation's Microsoft 365 is managed. For Cowork it's where four cost decisions live: switching usage-based billing on, choosing the Azure subscription it bills to, setting spending limits per tenant, group or person, and reading the usage reports that show who spent what. If Cowork is costing more than planned, this is where the answer is.

In practice

Most businesses never open it - their IT provider does. That's fine, but the owner should know the four screens exist, because they're the controls on a variable bill. Ask for a monthly screenshot of the Copilot usage report and you'll see spend by person in thirty seconds.

The usage report is the most useful thing in there. It shows credits spent per user and per agent, which is how you find the enthusiast running nine scheduled digests, and how you decide whether a licence has earned its place after a quarter.

One thing it can't do: cap a single task. Limits apply to people and groups. If one type of job is expensive, the control is who runs it and how it's briefed, not a setting.

Common questions

Whoever administers Microsoft 365 - usually your IT provider plus one person in the business. Global admin rights are powerful; billing and reporting can be delegated with narrower roles.

The usage report shows credits; the pound figure comes through on the Azure invoice once the dollar price has been converted. Use the credit count with the converter on this site for an in-month view.

Figures use Microsoft pay-as-you-go list pricing ($0.01 per Copilot Credit, billed in US dollars), converted at £1 = $1.27 - a deliberately cautious rate (2026 has run between $1.31 and $1.39), so real pound costs are likely to be a little lower.
